It helps to include your iPhone model, iOS version, and what you were doing when it happened. A screenshot is worth a thousand words.

Getting started

Sign in with Apple — a private relay email is fine. On first launch you can start from a ready-made starter pantry or build your own. Add the stores you shop at to each item so your shopping lists come out store by store.

Sharing with your household

In Settings → Account, the Household section has Generate Invite Code. Sharing is a subscription for the person who shares ($2.99 a month or $14.99 a year, after a free month); everyone they invite joins free. Send the code to the person you want to share with; they enter it in Settings on their phone. Each code works once — generate a new one for each person. The household’s owner can remove members at any time, and anyone can leave. More in Sharing and the Subscription.

Notifications aren’t arriving

  • Check iPhone Settings → Notifications → Empty Basket and make sure notifications are allowed.
  • In the app, open Settings → Notifications and check which kinds are turned on. Notifications are only sent for things other household members do — never for your own changes.
  • Focus modes and Do Not Disturb can hold notifications back.

Changes aren’t syncing

Empty Basket works offline and catches up when you’re back online. If something looks out of date, pull down on any list to refresh. If it still isn’t right, make sure everyone is signed in to the same household (Settings → Account).

Scanning items

In the Pantry, tap + → Scan Item… and point the camera at a barcode, or take a photo of the label or the item itself. Barcodes are looked up on Open Food Facts; labels and produce are read on your iPhone. If a barcode isn’t found, photograph the front of the package. More in Scanning items.

Scanning a recipe

In the Meals tab, tap + → Scan Recipe… and photograph a printed recipe or pick photos from your library. Everything is read on your iPhone; photos are never uploaded. Flat, well-lit pages scan best. Scanning works on any supported iPhone and is most accurate on models with Apple Intelligence. Always review the result before saving.

Backups

The household’s creator can save a backup file of the pantry, shopping lists, and meals from Settings → Household, and restore it from the same place.

Deleting your account

Open Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and data. If you share a household, what happens to the shared data depends on your role — the privacy policy explains exactly what’s kept and what’s deleted. If you can’t open the app, email privacy@emptystudios.online from the address tied to your account.
